Do you ever think about the future you?
Do you think about what will make you happy? Do you think about what your personal environment will look like? Do you think about the kinds of people you want to have in your life? Do you think about who you want to be?
I’m not talking about the stuff you talk about at a performance review – not your formal professional goals or the monetary value of your time. I’m talking about the soft stuff – the stuff that will keep you warm and fuzzy for the long haul.
This is what you need to think about when you embark on an organizing project.
Visualize what you want your space to look like in broad terms. Do you like clean lines and clear surfaces? Or do you want everything in plain sight within reach? What does a restful space look like to the future you?
Does the future you want information on physical papers in filing cabinets or stored electronically on your computer or in the cloud? Do you want to touch or see?
Does the future you want clearly scheduled time or ample free time in which to be spontaneous?
You need to know what you’re striving to achieve as you begin. You need a vision. You need to think about the future you!
